Microsoft: founder Bill Gates leaves board of directors

(CercleFinance.com) - Microsoft has said that its co-founder Bill Gates has stepped down from the company's board of directors to dedicate more time to his philanthropic activities.


64-year old Gates will continue to serve as a "technology advisor" to CEO Satya Nadella and other company directors, the software giant said.

In 2008, Gates transitioned out of a day-to-day role in the company to spend more time at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, serving as Microsoft's board chairman until 2014.

With his departure, the board will consist of 12 members, including CEO Satya Nadella, Wells Fargo CEO Charles Scharf, and CEO of GlaxoSmithKline Emma Walmsley.
