Eli Lilly: FDA approves alopecia treatment

(CercleFinance.com) - Eli Lilly and its partner Incyte announced on Tuesday that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the marketing of their Olumiant tablet for the treatment of severe alopecia.

The companies say that the green light from the US health authority follows two Phase 3 clinical trials that showed the effectiveness of their product on about 1,200 patients.

The trial, conducted over 36 weeks, showed that between 17% and 22% of patients treated with a 2-mg/day dose regained over 80% of their hair, a percentage that rose to 32%-35% at the 4-mg/day dose, compared to 3% to 5% in the placebo group.
