J&J: FDA and CDC recommend 'pause' in vaccines

(CercleFinance.com) - On Tuesday the FDA and the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced that they have decided to recommend a pause in the administration of Johnson & Johnson's Covid vaccine, citing a precautionary principle.

The two governmental agencies say they have identified six cases of rare and severe blood clots in the US out of the more than 6.8 million doses injected so far in the country.

While they acknowledge that the occurrence of these events is an "extremely rare" factor, the CDC has decided to convene its Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) tomorrow to review the issue.

The FDA will review the data available from its investigation of the reported incidents.

Pending the outcome of this work, both agencies recommend healthcare professionals "pause" the administration of the vaccine.

J&J shares are down about 2.5% during pre-market trading on Tuesday on the New York Stock Exchange after these announcements.
