ExxonMobil: makes hydrocarbon find off Suriname

(CercleFinance.com) - ExxonMobil said it has found hydrocarbons off Surinam's coast, adding to its most recent finds in this oil-rich region of South America.

Exxon said partner and operator, Malaysia's Petronas, drilled the well to a total depth of approximately 4,780 meters, with the discovery now being evaluated to determine its potential.

The US energy giant said last month that it is prioritizing capital spending on advantaged assets with high potential, a category to which the group's projects in Suriname and Guiana belong.

The Block 52, which is owned 50:50 by Exxon and Petronas, covers an area of nearly 5,000 km2 and is located approximately 100 km offshore north of Suriname's capital city, Paramaribo, in water depths ranging from 50 to 1,100 meters.
