Disney: EU clears takeover of Fox - on conditions

(CercleFinance.com) - The European Commission said on Wednesday that it has approved the US media and entertainment giant Disney's takeover of parts of its rival Fox, subject to certain conditions.


The European Union executive said in a statement that the acquisition was conditional on Disney's divestment of the so-called "factual channels" that the company controls in Europe.

To address the Commission's concerns, Disney has committed to divest its History, H2, Crime & Investigation, Blaze and Lifetime channels that are currently controlled by A+E, a joint venture with Hearst, Brussels said.

This commitment will eliminate the overlap between Disney's and Fox's activities in the supply of factual channels, the EU said.
