Amazon: to acquire iRobot for $1.7bn

(CercleFinance.com) - US online retail giant Amazon announced on Friday that it would acquire iRobot, the maker of the Roomba robot hoover, for 1.
7 billion dollars.

The Seattle-based company said it plans to offer $61 for each share of the consumer home robotics company, which closed at just under $50 per share last night.

Amazon said it valued the innovation of iRobot, a Bedford, Massachusetts-based company that launched the Roomba robot hoover in 2002 before releasing the Braava floor cleaning robots.

The current CEO is to remain in charge.
