AMD: acquires Xilinx 35 billion dollars

(CercleFinance.com) - The US microprocessor manufacturer AMD announced on Tuesday that it has reached an agreement to acquire Xilinx, a specialist in programmable logic chips, in a 35 billion dollar deal to be financed entirely by an exchange of shares.

In a statement, AMD explained that the acquisition of Xilinx will enable it to expand its portfolio of high-performance processors by offering central processing units (CPUs), graphic processors (GPUs), FPGAs and systems-on-chip (SoCs).

Under the terms of the agreement, Xilinx shareholders will receive 1.7234 AMD ordinary shares for each share they hold, valuing Xilinx shares at around 143 dollars.

In comparison, Xilinx's share closed at 130 dollars last night.
The announcement comes as AMD unveiled this morning solid third quarter results, with "record" sales up 56% and a doubling of net profit year-on-year.
