Ericsson: targets 1.9 billion subscriptions to 5G in 2024

(CercleFinance.com) - Ericsson estimates that the number of 5G subscriptions is expected to reach 1.
9 billion in 2024 as operators multiply deployments and users switch to 5G devices.

The group expects 400 million additional mobile broadband subscriptions worldwide by the end of 2024, up nearly 27% from the latest study in November 2018.

As 5G devices become increasingly available and more and more 5G networks are operational, over 10 million 5G subscriptions are expected worldwide by the end of 2019.

The number of 5G subscriptions is expected to be the fastest in North America, with 63% of mobile subscriptions forecast in the region by 2024. Northeast Asia comes in second (47%) and Europe third (40%).

The group also says that 5G coverage is expected to reach 45% of the world's population by the end of 2024. By 2024, 5G networks should route 35% of global mobile traffic.
