Equinor: Veslefrikk platform to close in 2022

(CercleFinance.com) - Norway's Equinor announced on Monday that it intends to close the Veslefrikk oil and gas field on the Norwegian continental shelf in the spring of 2022 after over 30 years of operation.


The energy group says that the platform, which is located off the coast of Bergen, was initially scheduled to close in 2009, i.e. twenty years after its commissioning in 1989.

The site, discovered in 1981 and which has produced over 400 million barrels of hydrocarbons since it was commissioned, had, however, undergone several life cycle extensions.

On Friday, Equinor announced the resumption of production at its Tjeldbergodden site, near Trondheim, which is specialised in the manufacture of methanol following the fire that interrupted its activities last December.
