ASML: second-quarter results above expectations

(CercleFinance.com) - ASML, the Dutch maker of semiconductor production equipment, has reported second-quarter sales above expectations on Wednesday on the back of stronger-than-expected demand for EUV (Extreme UltraViolet) lithography systems, sending its shares up.


The company, based in Veldhoven, the Netherlands, reported second-quarter net income of 584 million euros on sales of 2.74 billion euros.

After an "excellent" first half of 2018, ASML said it expects the second half to be even "stronger," with improved profitability and continued growth, the group said.

ASML expects third-quarter net sales between 2.7 billion and 2.8 billion euros and a gross margin between 47 per cent and 48 per cent.

The shares were up 6.2% at 182.7 euros on Euronext Amsterdam after the report.
