Euronext: cash volumes leap in April

(CercleFinance.com) - Euronext announced late on Thursday that it recorded a sharp increase in trading volumes in April, with particularly strong growth in its cash markets.


The pan-European stock exchange operator last night reported 60.6 million transactions on its cash markets last month, leaping 70.5% compared to April 2019.

In terms of value, Euronext reported trading volumes of over 192 billion euros on its cash markets in April, a year-on-year increase of 17.5%.

Compared with March, trading volumes were nevertheless down 48.5%.

Note that, according to the AMF, purchases of French shares by private individuals quadrupled in March, with total volume having tripled against the backdrop of the Covid-19 crisis.

More than 150,000 new investors bought SBF 120 shares in March, often much younger (between 10 and 15 years younger) than usual investors on the French markets.

On the derivatives markets, which include both equity and commodity derivatives, some 15.5 million contracts were traded by Euronext last month, 26.5% higher than in April 2019, althuough 28% lower than in March 2020.
