Unilever: appropriates sum against climate change

(CercleFinance.com) - Unilever announced on Monday that it will create a 1 billion euro investment fund to fight climate change and protect natural resources.

The money will be used over the next 10 years for projects ranging from environmental restoration to carbon sequestration, as well as wildlife protection and water conservation.

The Anglo-Dutch consumer goods giant also claims that it wants to achieve carbon neutrality on all its products by 2039.

All formulations of its finished products should become biodegradable before 2030, the group says, which also intends to implement "zero deforestation" supply chains.

Unilever explains that it will be able to capitalise on initiatives already launched by some of its brands, such as the program to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from its ice cream Ben & Jerry's dairy farms.
