Aegon: H1 2020 earnings divided by three

(CercleFinance.com) - Aegon has reported H1 2020 earnings that have been divided by three to 202 million euros (vs.
617 million euros a year ago), with underlying pre-tax profit that is down 31% to 700 million euros.

The Dutch insurance company explains that this decline is due to unfavourable mortality and lower interest rates in the United States, while the results of its other units were resilient, supported by cost reductions.

Based on these interim results and given the uncertain economic outlook, Aegon has withdrawn its financial targets for 2019-21. The group also says that it will reduce its interim dividend to six cents per share.
