Airbus: A330neo order for Malaysia Airlines
(CercleFinance.com) - Airbus has announced that Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), the parent company of Malaysia Airlines, has selected its A330neo aircraft for its wide-body fleet renewal program, which will gradually replace its 21 A330ceo aircraft.
The initial agreements are for the acquisition of 20 A330-900 aircraft, 10 to be purchased from the aircraft manufacturer and 10 to be leased to Dublin-based Avolon. Powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, they will join six long-haul A350-900s.
The carrier will operate the A330neo on its network covering Asia, Pacific and the Middle East. Malaysia Airlines will configure its A330neo fleet with a premium layout to accommodate 300 passengers in two classes.
In addition to the wide-body fleet renewal, Airbus and MAG have signed a letter of intent to explore broader collaboration in the areas of sustainability, training, maintenance and airspace management.
