STMicroelectronics: first GaN prototypes with Macom

(CercleFinance.com) - STMicroelectronics announced on Friday that it has developed prototypes of gallium nitride-on-silicon (GaN-on-Silicon) RF products with US-based Macom, which the two partners are targeting for 5G and 6G applications.


In a statement, ST and Macom say that these initial samples are now moving towards the certification and industrialisation phases, steps that should be completed by the end of the year.

In light of this progress, the two groups say they are now working together to accelerate the process of bringing the technology to market.

Based in Lowell, Massachusetts, Macom manufactures optical, wireless and satellite network microelectronic chips for communications, aerospace and defence infrastructure providers.
