ArcelorMittal: contract to equip an Antarctic vessel

(CercleFinance.com) - ArcelorMittal has announced a contract to supply marine steel to a research supply vessel for exploration of the Antarctic, a vessel that will be equipped with ice-breaking capabilities.


Marine steels are built solid (up to 620 MPa) with low carbon content, which enables them to overcome the harsh conditions of the polar waters, the world's leading steelmaker said.

This 156-metre-long ship is currently being built at the Damen shipyard in Galati, Romania. Commissioned by the Australian government to supply its scientific bases, this boat is expected to be delivered in April 2020.
