Toyota: autonomous driving tests on public roads

(CercleFinance.com) - Toyota Motor Europe (TME) announces the launch of autonomous driving tests on public roads in Europe.
A Lexus LS will repeat the same journey around a fixed route over the course of the next thirteen months.

An autonomous vehicle will drive around the centre of Brussels in the presence of a driver able to override the system. The aim is to study the impact of human behaviour on autonomous driving systems.

The implementation of tests on European roads stands to complete the vehicle's understanding after tests conducted in Japan and the United States.

Gerald Killmann, Vice-President of R&D at TME says: “Toyota's ultimate goal is zero casualties from traffic accidents, and the main goal of this pilot is to study complex and unpredictable human behaviour and its impact on automated driving system requirements”.
