Glencore: inquiry of US Department of Justice

(CercleFinance.com) - As the sharpest faller on London's FTSE 100 index today, the Glencore share has collapsed over 10% this morning, after the Swiss-based commodities giant announced that the US Department of Justice is asking it to produce documents relating to an inquiry regarding corruption and money laundering in Africa and South America.


The group states that the Department of Justice has ordered it to provide, by a summons dated 2 July, various documents as part of an investigation into compliance with US rules on corruption and money laundering.

The case concerns Glencore's activities in Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of Congo (formerly Zaire) and Venezuela from 2007 to the present day.
