Vodafone: pledges net zero emissions by 2040

(CercleFinance.com) - Vodafone said on Monday that it aims to become a "net-zero" company by 2040, bringing forward its original 2050 ambition by ten years.

The British phone operator said that it would start aligning the emissions of its businesses with the Paris agreement, thanks to better energy efficiency, renewable energy supply, while reducing its network waste and choosing suppliers based on new environmental criteria.

Vodafone said it also plans to help customers to reduce their environmental footprint through the use of 5G services, such as the Internet of Things.

Last year, the company committed to purchasing all electricity from renewable sources, halving its environmental footprint by 2025 and reusing, reselling or recycling 100% of its network waste.

By 2021, Vodafone's European network will be powered by 100% renewable electricity, using only power from wind, solar or hydro sources, the group said.
