Vodafone: confirms early stage discussions with Liberty

(CercleFinance.com) - Vodafone confirmed late on Friday recent media speculation regarding a potential transaction with American telecoms and TV provider Liberty Global.


In a brief statement, Vodafone said it is in "early stage discussions" regarding the acquisition of certain overlapping continental European assets owned by Liberty.

Still, there is no certainty that any transaction will be agreed, Vodafone said in the filing.

According to the British press, Vodafone would be particularly interested in Liberty Global's assets in Germany, Hungary, Romania and the Czech Republic in a deal that could reach over 14 billion euros, France's Invest Securities said in a report this morning.

Vodafone shares are currently down 2.6% on the London Stock Exchange.
