easyJet: FY loss less than expected

(CercleFinance.com) - easyJet has reported a lower-than-expected loss on Tuesday for its financial year ended 30 September.


Europe's second-largest low-cost carrier behind Ryanair reported a pre-tax loss of 1,136 million pounds for the year ended 30 September, better than the consensus, which expected a loss of around 1,175 million pounds.

The airline, which is based at Gatwick airport near London, said it carried 20.4 million passengers (-57.5%) over the year, with a load factor that fell to 72.5%, compared with 87.2% a year earlier.

In its statement, the carrier said it was still too early to assess the impact that the new "Omicron" variant could have on the European tourism sector, adding that it had in any case prepared for phases of uncertainty such as the current situation.
