easyJet: shares edge higher after 'robust' quarter

(CercleFinance.com) - Shares of easyJet were trading sharply higher on Thursday after the budget airline delivered a "robust" performance in the past quarter, with revenue up by over 11%.

Total revenue for the group's third quarter ending 30 June increased by 11.4% to 1.76 billion pounds, while passenger numbers in the quarter increased by 8% to 26.4 million, helped by a "solid" Easter performance, it said.

"easyJet's third quarter performance was robust and despite the tougher macroeconomic conditions was in line with expectations", commented Chief Executive Johan Lundgren.

Headline profit before tax for the 12 months to 30 September 2019 is expected to be between 400 million pounds and 440 million pounds, easyJet said, which is in line with market expectations.

The London-listed easyJet shares, which have lost 3% so far this year, were up 3.5% in morning trading.
