easyJet: May traffic up 3.7%, but cancellations weigh

(CercleFinance.com) - Low-cost airline easyJet carried 3.
7% more passengers in May year-on-year, despite a high number of flight cancellations over the month.

The airline carried 7.79 million passengers last month, up from the 7.51 million it flew in May 2017, while its load factor — a measure of how the carrier fills its planes — rose 1.8% to 93.3%.

These passenger statistics do not include Tegel operations, after the company bought Air Berlin assets, although they do take into account 974 cancellations mostly due to French and Italian industrial action.

On Tuesday, its competitor Ryanair said it carried 12.5 million passengers in May, or 6% more than a year ago, despite suffering from a high number of cancellations as well.

easyJet shares, which have risen 19% so far this year, were up 0.5% at 1,742.5 pence, valuing the airline at around 6.9 billion pounds.
