Rolls-Royce: joins hydrogen-production market
(CercleFinance.com) - In acquiring a controlling interest of 54% in electrolysis cell specialist Hoeller Electrolyzer, Rolls-Royce is entering the hydrogen-production market.
Hoeller Electrolyzer, headquartered in Wismar, Germany, is developing polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) cells, under the brand name Prometheus, to make hydrogen production cost-effective.
"By developing our own mtu electrolyzers and by taking a majority stake in Hoeller Electrolyzers, we are methodically growing our hydrogen portfolio and securing access to this fascinating technology, which is not a pipe dream but has great market potential," said Dr. Otto Preiss, head of Rolls-Royce Power Systems.
"This will enable us to supply complete hydrogen solutions and make a significant contribution to protecting the climate," he adds.
