Rolls Royce: delivers its first 16-cylinder mtu
(CercleFinance.com) - Rolls-Royce has announced the delivery of the first 16-cylinder engines in its successful mtu 8000 series.
CSBC Corporation, a Taiwanese shipyard, will install the first two 16V 8000 M71L engines in new patrol vessels for the Taiwanese Coast Guard.
The two power units each deliver 7,280 kilowatts of power, enabling the 1,000-tonne vessels to reach speeds of up to 24 knots. A total of six 1,000-tonne ships are to be built with the mtu engines, which will be delivered by the end of 2022, Rolls-Royce said.
In addition, the British engine manufacturer says it has also sold a further 20 engines to a second client, continuing the success story of the mtu 8000 series.
