Rolls-Royce: launches world's largest aircraft engine

(CercleFinance.com) - Rolls-Royce has announced that it has begun the construction of the world's largest aircraft engine.


The group has officially started building the world's largest aircraft engine. "UltraFan will help redefine sustainable air travel for decades to come," the company said.

Work on the first module is underway at the DemoWorks site in Derby, UK. The demonstration engine is 140 inches in diameter and will be completed by the end of the year.

This engine forms the basis of a new family of UltraFan engines capable of powering narrow and wide body aircraft, improving fuel efficiency by 25% relative to the first generation of Trent engines, the group said.

The engine's first test will be made using 100%-sustainable aviation fuel.
