Shell: to sell wind energy to Amazon

(CercleFinance.com) - Anglo-Dutch oil group Shell on Monday said it has signed an agreement with Amazon to provide the online retail giant with renewable power from an offshore wind farm that is being constructed off the Dutch coast.

The subsidy-free farm will be operated by a joint venture between Shell and Dutch energy company Eneco, the oil major said. Starting in 2024, Amazon will offtake 250 megawatts (MW) from Shell and 130 MW from Eneco, for a total of 380 MW.

Amazon has pledged to become net-zero carbon across its business by 2040 and to continue its path to power its operations by achieving 100% renewable energy by 2025 - five years ahead of its initial target.
