Barclays: shares up after Sherborne takes 5.2% stake

(CercleFinance.com) - Barclays shares are up almost 4% on Monday, after activist investor Sherborne reported having taken a stake of over 5% in the British bank.


As disclosed in a notification this morning, Sherborne has acquired a stake with over 5.16% of Barclays' voting rights.

In a statement, Barclays reacted, saying that it welcomed the new shareholder and that it would continue to engage with them, "as with all its shareholders."

Based in New York, Sherborne Investors calls itself a "turnaround" investment firm that targets publicly listed European and US companies that have underperformed the market due to operational issues.
