BT: Quantum Network Trial in London with Toshiba

(CercleFinance.com) - In response to the growing threat of quantum computing to the security of traditional networks, BT has announced a partnership with Toshiba to build and test a quantum network that will provide a range of secure services for private fiber networks in London.


This will be the world's first commercial trial of a quantum network infrastructure, BT says.

Toshiba will provide the quantum key distribution hardware and key management software.

The companies' initial focus will on the provision of trials to corporate customers carrying sensitive traffic (such as database backups) between sites, while exploring potential future offerings such as encrypted links and "quantum keys as a service".
