AstraZeneca: first doses distributed through Covax

(CercleFinance.com) - The first doses of the Covid vaccine developed by AstraZeneca are beginning to arrive in low- and middle-income countries worldwide, thanks to Covax, an initiative that is helping to provide a wider and more equitable supply of vaccines.


The first shipments through Covax were made over the weekend to Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire. Other deliveries are planned for later this week to the Philippines, Indonesia, Fiji, Mongolia and Moldova.

Further shipments will arrive in the coming weeks with the aim of providing a total of 142 countries with hundreds of millions of doses of the vaccine in the coming months.

The majority of these doses, manufactured by AstraZeneca and its licensing partner Serum Institute of India, will be destined for low- and middle-income countries, AstraZeneca says.
