AstraZeneca: Lokelma approved in the US

9% in London this morning, after the US FDA approved its drug Lokelma (sodium zirconium cyclosilicate), previously ZS-9, for the treatment of adults with hyperkalemia at the end of last week.

Hyperkalemia is a serious illness that is characterised by high levels of potassium in the blood. It is associated with cardiovascular, renal and metabolic diseases, and can lead to heart stoppage and death if not treated promptly.

This marketing authorisation for Lokelma in the US, which is added to that granted in Europe last March, is based on three double-blind, placebo-controlled trials and two open-label trials.
