GSK: The WHO supports malaria vaccine roll-out

(CercleFinance.com) - GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) last night welcomed the World Health Organization's (WHO) decision to support the expanded roll-out of GSK's malaria vaccine (RTS, S) to reduce malaria-related illness and death amongst children in sub-Saharan Africa and other areas of moderate-to-high transmission.


After over three decades of research, GSK's vaccine is said to be the first and only malaria vaccine to have been shown in long-term pivotal clinical trials to significantly reduce malaria in children, the company said.

It added that together with other prevention measures, the vaccine has the potential to save hundreds of thousands of lives.
