GlaxoSmithKline: FDA approves two-drug HIV regimen

(CercleFinance.com) - The US Food and Drug Administration has approved GlaxoSmithKline's two-drug regimen to treat adults with HIV-1, the infection that causes AIDS.

The FDA approved Dovato, a complete, once-daily, single-tablet regimen of dolutegravir and lamivudine for the treatment of HIV-1 infection in adults with no antiretroviral treatment history and with no known resistance to either compound.

The drug will offer patients a way to treat their HIV-1 infection with as few drugs as possible, marking a significant step in HIV treatment, GSK said.

Dovato is currently being reviewed by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and regulatory authorities in Canada, Australia, Switzerland, and South Africa.
