bp: operates new gas field offshore India

(CercleFinance.com) - Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) and bp today announced the commissioning of the Satellite Cluster gas field located in the KG D6 block off the east coast of India.

RIL and bp have developed three deepwater gas fields in the KG D6 block - R Cluster, Satellite Cluster and MJ - which together are expected to produce about 1 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day by 2023, or about 15% of India's demand for gas.

The Satellite Cluster is therefore the second of three developments to come on stream, following the start-up of R Cluster in December 2020.

Together, the R Cluster and Satellite Cluster are expected to produce about 20% of India's current gas production.

The third KG D6 development, MJ, is expected to come on stream in the second half of 2022.

RIL is the operator of the block, with a majority stake of 66.67% stake, while bp holds the remaining 33.33%.
