bp: joins IBM-led initiative on quantum computing

(CercleFinance.com) - British oil and gas giant bp is joining an IBM-led initiative to advance the use of quantum computing in the energy industry, the company announced on Monday.


Under the deal, bp will have access to IBM's 65-qubit quantum computer, the largest universal quantum system available today, before reaching a 1,000-plus system targeted for the end of 2023.

bp said that it will work with IBM to solve engineering challenges, drive efficiencies and cut its carbon emissions as it plans to become a net zero company by 2050.
