BP: expands operations in Gulf of Mexico

(CercleFinance.com) - Nine years after the Deepwater Horizon disaster, BP said on Tuesday that it plans for "significant growth" in the Gulf of Mexico.


BP today announced that it has approved a 1.3 billion dollar expansion plan at its Atlantis field in the US Gulf of Mexico.

The move comes after the oil giant discovered another 400 million barrels of oil in place at the Atlantis field.

The group said it has also identified significant additional oil resources around the production hubs that it operates in the region.

For example, BP has found another 1 billion barrels of oil in place at the Thunder Horse field.
