Rio Tinto: paid $13.3bn in taxes and royalties in 2021

(CercleFinance.com) - In its 2021 financial report, Rio Tinto highlights its contribution to the economy through the payment of 13.
3 billion dollars in global taxes and royalties over the year, compared to 8.4 billion dollars in 2020.

Despite the continuing challenges of COVID-19, Rio Tinto made a total direct economic contribution of 66.6 billion dollars in the countries and communities in which it operates in 2021, up from 47 billion dollars the previous year, the mining company said.

In Australia - home to about half of the group's assets - Rio Tinto paid 11.1 billion dollars (A$14.8 billion) in taxes and royalties, up from 6.8 billion dollars (A$9.8 billion) the previous year.

The company also made significant payments in Canada ($855 million), Mongolia ($544 million), Chile ($562 million) and the US ($81 million).
