Rio Tinto: Dunkerque smelter to be sold to Liberty House

(CercleFinance.com) - Rio Tinto has received a binding offer from British commodities and steel group Liberty House to acquire its aluminium Dunkerque smelter in northern France for 500 million dollars, the global mining company said on Wednesday.


Rio Tinto said the offer represents the "best option" for the plant, with Liberty House already establishing plans for the site's modernisation.

As a reminder, Liberty House acquired Rio Tinto's Lochaber smelter and assets in Scotland in December 2016.

Rio Tinto now plans to launch a consultation process with employees, European works councils and other stakeholders in relation to the bid, expecting to complete the transaction in the second quarter of 2018.
