BAT: suspends operations in Ukraine, but not Russia

(CercleFinance.com) - BAT has announced the suspension of all commercial and manufacturing operations in Ukraine and says it is providing all the support and assistance that it can to its colleagues, including relocation and temporary accommodation: it has about 1,000 employees in the country.


However, BAT is continuing business in Russia (2,500 employees), believing that it is fulfilling its duty of assistance to its employees, in this extremely complicated and uncertain period for them and their families.

"We have suspended all planned capital investment into Russia and will focus on our portfolio of locally produced tobacco products - including our heated tobacco products. Furthermore, we are scaling our business activities appropriate to the current situation, including rationalising our marketing activities," it said.

The share is down about 0.5%, although is outperforming the market by about this amount in London.
