Alstom: SNCF orders 100 'TGVs of the future'

(CercleFinance.com) - Today, the Alstom Group announces that SNCF Mobilités has placed a firm order with it for 100 next-generation high-speed trains.


“This new generation of very high speed trains addresses to ambitious goals in terms of competitiveness of the rail sector and profitability for SNCF, with a total acquisition cost 20% lower than that of the previous generation. The teams of experts working on this project for two years have risen to the challenge of specifying a new train at a reduced cost of E25 million per trainset, with an additional budget of E190 million for options and services”, specifies Alstom in a press release.

The new trains will be able to accommodate up to 740 passengers. They will consume 20% less energy than the existing trainsets. The contract has a value of 2.7 billion euros. The SNCF states that the first TGVs will be delivered from 2023 and that deliveries will continue up to 2033.
