Valneva: obtains marketing authorisation for Covid vaccine

(CercleFinance.com) - Valneva has announced that on Friday the European Commission granted a marketing authorisation (MA) in Europe for its inactivated whole-virus Covid-19 vaccine for use as a primary immunisation in adults aged 18 to 50 years.


With this approval, VLA2001 becomes the first vaccine against this disease to receive a standard MA in Europe, covering the 28 EU Member States as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway.

15% of Europeans over the age of 18 are not yet vaccinated, and it believes that making its inactivated vaccine available could increase vaccination coverage and have a significant impact on public health, it said.

The Commission's authorisation came a day after the Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) recommended granting marketing authorisation for VLA2001.
