Orange: partners MTM in interoperability of mobile money

(CercleFinance.com) - Orange and MTN have announced the creation of the Mowali joint venture, which will enable payment interoperability across Africa, making it possible to transfer funds between mobile money accounts, in real time and at a lower cost, regardless of the operator.


As a platform that connects financial service providers and customers within a single network, Mowali operates as a service company, which is open to any mobile money provider in Africa, including banks and money transfer operators.

It will immediately benefit from MTN's and Orange's Mobile Money customer bases, i.e. over 100 million accounts, and is intended to enable interoperability beyond, in order to serve 338 million mobile money customers in Africa.
