Société Générale: CAC's biggest winner after Macron's lead.
(CercleFinance.com) - Investors turned towards French financial stocks on Monday, with Société Générale the sharpest riser in the CAC 40 index, after pro-business candidate Emmanuel Macron took the lead in the first round of voting for the Presidential election, winning around 24% of votes.
"Emmanuel Macron is a pro-European centrist reformer, who will greatly re-assure international investors," said Vincent Durel, fund manager of Fidelity's FF France Fund.
"We can now expect the financial sector in France and Europe to outperform, reflecting a fall in political risks, which will benefit all the European equity markets," he added.
The Société Générale share is currently up 9.2% at 50.5 euros, with over 1% of the group's capital having been exchanged.
