TotalEnergies: withdraws from Myanmar

(CercleFinance.com) - TotalEnergies announces that it has decided to leave Myanmar after having on several occasions condemned in the strongest terms the abuses and human rights violations that have been taking place there, since the coup d'état of 1 February 2021.


The group will therefore begin the withdrawal process provided for in the contracts for the Yadana field and the MGTC transport company, both as operator and shareholder, without any financial compensation for TotalEnergies.

This withdrawal was notified today to its partners in Yadana and MGTC and will be effective at the latest at the end of the six month notice period provided for in the contract. The agreements provide that in the event of withdrawal, the role of operator will be taken over by one of its partners.
