Total: takes over Al-Shaheen oil field.
(CercleFinance.com) - Total has announced the takeover, alongside Qatar Petroleum, of the operation of the giant offshore Al-Shaheen oil field for a period of 25 years.
The field produces 300,000 barrels of oil per day. The concession will be operated by the North Oil Company (NOC), established a year ago as a joint venture between Total (30%) and Qatar Petroleum (70%). The Al-Shaheen field accounts for about half of Qatar's oil production. 30 platforms and 300 wells are operational there. “NOC will leverage its technical capabilities to optimize the exploitation of the complex Al-Shaheen oil field”, said Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and CEO of Total.
