Crédit Agricole: could take over Commerzbank.

(CercleFinance.com) - In an interview with the Handelsblatt, Philippe Brassac, Crédit Agricole's CEO, mentioned his interest in buying Commerzbank.


He said that that the group's priority is organic growth until 2019, "but that does not mean that we would not explore any interesting opportunities that might be available" Aurel BGC reports.

Several French banks currently want to expand in Europe via an acquisition, including BNP Paribas.

"Remember that the name Unicredit had also circulated, but one of the establishment's top management considered the idea of a merger with Commerzbank as absurd," analysts said at Aurel BGC.
