Grifols: multiplying efforts to fight coronavirus

(CercleFinance.com) - Spanish blood plasma company Grifols said that it has entered into a formal collaboration with the US government to produce a treatment specifically targeting the Covid-19 virus.


Along with several federal public health agencies, the company will conduct studies to determine if its anti-SARS-CoV-2 hyperimmune globulin therapy can successfully be used to treat the disease.

At the same time, in Spain Grifols is working on a clinical trial with inactivated plasma from patients who have recovered.

The Spanish healthcare company is also accelerating the development of a proprietary diagnostic procedure, which is capable of detecting the virus, to be conducted using automatic instrumentation, with each unit able to treat over 1,000 samples per day.

The test is expected to be ready in the next few weeks, the group said.
