E.ON: collaboration agreement in airborne wind energy.

ON said on Tuesday that it has entered into a collaboration agreement with the Dutch company Ampyx Power to test the emerging airborne wind energy technology.

Airborne wind technology harvests wind energy by using a fixed wing or sail, which is comparable to kite-surfing, at altitudes of up to 450 metres.

The German energy group has also committed to invest in the development, and if successful, construction and operation of a demonstration site in County Mayo in Ireland.

The investment marks E.ON's second major commitment in the airborne wind energy domain after investing in the Scotland-based airborne wind energy start-up company Kite Power Systems last year.

E.ON has entered into the agreement with Ampyx Power as the first user of the upcoming test site.
