Bayer: Brazil authorises merger with Monsanto

(CercleFinance.com) - The Brazilian competition regulator, Cade (Conselho Administrativo de Defesa Econômica) yesterday approved, subject to certain disposals, the merger between Bayer and Monsanto.


Cade indicates that both groups have proposed "corrective measures" for the merger, which will include the sale of Bayer's assets on soybean and cotton seeds, and some herbicides. These activities will be bought by BASF for approximately 5.9 billion euros.

This opinion is important for this merger which is worth over 60 billion dollars, as announced by both agro-chemists in autumn 2016, with Brazil being a major agricultural powerhouse.
