Bayer: research agreement with Chinese institute.

(CercleFinance.com) - Bayer says it has entered into a two-year research agreement with the Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences to improve wheat yields.


The German drugs and crop chemicals group plans to share science with the research institute and apply new models for improved photosynthetic efficiency in plants.

Photosynthesis is the process by which plants use sunlight to convert carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and water into carbohydrates and biomass.

It is estimated that wheat accounts for about 20% of the world's food energy intake today.
